Ali Metzler has worked in the education and non-profit sector since 1997, dedicating the last 18 years to serving youth and families in San Francisco. Since 2010, she has worked for the San Francisco Beacon Initiative (SFBI), overseeing program quality initiatives, capacity building and program partnerships for eight school-based Beacon Centers that serve over 11,000 youth and families each year.
Prior to SFBI, Metzler worked for the San Francisco Unified School District, where she supported Out of School Time initiatives for K-12 programs, serving as one of the leads for the Proposition 49 expansion of after-school programs. She started her career in youth development, leading youth in the creation of ceramic tile public art installations in the late 1990s, many of which can still be found in the 16th Street corridor of San Francisco’s Mission District.
Metzler received her B.A. in fine arts from the University of Oregon.
